Meet the artist
Hi, I’m Rachael Carr. I moved to Tarporley aged 9 and moved away at age 18 to study at Winchester School of Art, the University of Barcelona, Cyprus School of Art, and Goldsmiths University London. I have taught Art for over 30 years, 15 of which were in secondary schools teaching A level and GCSE, in London, Oxford and Brighton. You will probably see me walking my crazy cockapoo Archie around the village!

Both my children went to the local schools and even joined some of my classes when they were much younger! I set up The Craft Room over 10 years ago when I moved back to the village and have really enjoyed teaching such a wide range of ages from reception to retired adults. Each day is different, I love teaching new skills and techniques, seeing how students develop and discovering the joy creativity brings. It’s amazing to walk around the village and see so many children I have taught over the years growing up and some are now young adults.

I have more time to paint now and you can find my artwork displayed in both Reva Green and Lockgate Coffee House - from semi abstract landscapes and seascapes to animals and birds. I even ventured into pet portraits during the lockdowns. You may have seen my portrait of Archie hanging in Dappa dogs grooming salon!

If you have a passion for art, or are just looking to explore an old pastime again - I hope you will come and join us for a class at The Craft Room. Everyone is more than welcome.
